Bertie will lead a review of information and details from various topics gathered from the Spring, 2017 Common Conference.
I started my career in 1980 as a computer operator in the U.S. Air Force working with Burroughs systems. After a couple of years in operations, I moved into System Administration which included scheduling and file management (which included balancing the data files across disk packs).
In 1984, I got out of the military, and shortly thereafter went to college. Working during the day, and taking classes in the evening. Upon graduating college I got my first programming job working on System 34/36’s.
At this first job, I got the honor of being on the team that got to work on the first AS400. Over the years I got to work with several companies, languages and systems.
Some of my favorite programming projects includes: Writing a claims processing system for the California Earthquake Authority, Y2K conversions for five separate companies, taking a department from using index cards and other handwritten processes to using a system that I wrote specifically for them (included interfacing to other software at the company). Additionally, I was a speaker at RPG World for 4 years.
I was a contractor for many years and traveled around these United States. Now I’ve settled down a bit and taken a job at Medhost, where I’ve been now for a little over 5 years.
At this year’s Common Conference, I was impressed with the advancements made on the iSeries platform. I see great things ahead.
